MOT Testing at SHA

Everything you need to know about your annual MOT test and what to expect at our Telford garage.

An MOT (Ministry of Transport) test is a legally required annual inspection for any vehicle over three years old. It checks that your vehicle meets the minimum safety and environmental standards set by the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency).

At SHA Vehicle Sales & Service, our DVSA-authorised testers carry out thorough, impartial inspections. We will always give you a clear, honest result — with no pressure to carry out additional work unless you choose to.

Important:

Driving a vehicle without a valid MOT (unless travelling directly to a pre-booked test) is illegal and can result in a fine of up to £1,000 and points on your licence. Your vehicle insurance may also be invalidated.

MOT RESULTS

Understanding Your Result

After your MOT, you will receive a certificate (pass) or a refusal of an MOT test certificate (fail). Here is what each outcome means.

Pass: Your vehicle meets all minimum DVSA standards. You may also receive advisory notices — items that are not yet a failure but should be monitored and addressed soon.

Fail: One or more items do not meet the required standard. Your vehicle cannot be legally driven until the failures are rectified and a retest is passed.

VALID

Your MOT is current. Book your next one up to a month early and your new expiry date is preserved.

DUE SOON

Your MOT expires within 90 days. Book in advance to secure your preferred slot and avoid disruption.

EXPIRED

Your vehicle cannot legally be driven on public roads. You must book an MOT immediately.

Free Retest*:

If your vehicle fails its MOT and you have the repair work carried out by us, we offer a free partial retest on the failed items within 10 working days. Terms apply — ask us for details at the time of your test.
